How much does Tap to Pay on iPhone cost?
You only pay the standard credit card fee of 3% for each Tap to Pay checkout (Note: Transaction fees may vary based on appointment or plan type). There are no reader/terminal costs, no additional monthly fee, and no long-term contracts to use Tap to Pay on iPhone.
What’s required to start using Tap to Pay on iPhone?
First, check your device eligibility and check to see if you have the latest iOS and app versions (See below). If you have an eligible device, the only ongoing requirement is that you must set up payments on StyleSeat before you can enable Tap to Pay on iPhone. Click here to set up payments.
When should I use Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Tap to Pay on iPhone will work for most of your appointments on StyleSeat. It is the best solution for appointments that do not have a card stored on file or where the client wants to pay using a different card at the appointment. How do I know if a client’s card or device will work with Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Contactless cards have an EMV Contactless Indicator on the back or front of the card. Both Android and iOS devices and wearables work for a Client paying via Tap to Pay on iPhone, as long as your client has Apple Pay, Google Pay or another digital wallet enabled. There are no device requirements for the client.
How do I collect tips when using Tap to Pay on iPhone?
During the Tap to Pay checkout process, a request for tips will show up on the screen and your client will be able to select a tip amount. Continue the Tap to Pay transaction and the tip will automatically be added to the appointment amount. You do not need to collect tips separately.
What devices are eligible for Tap to Pay on iPhone?
iPhone XS or later, with an operating system of iOS 16.0 or later.
Does Tap to Pay on iPhone work on iPads, tablets, or desktop (web browser)?
No, Tap to Pay on iPhone only works with an iPhone using the StyleSeat app.
Do I need to update my StyleSeat app to use Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Yes, Tap to Pay on iPhone currently only works with the latest version of the StyleSeat app. Update your app here.
Will tap to pay functionality be available on Android?
Currently, this functionality is only available for iPhone. We would like to extend the functionality to our Android app later, but at the moment we don’t have an estimated date. Check our monthly e-newsletter for updates on tap to pay expansion.
How do I set up Tap to Pay on my iPhone?
To use Tap to Pay on iPhone, you’ll need to enable location sharing for the StyleSeat app and follow the prompts to link the Apple ID associated with your business. You’ll be prompted to accept Apple’s Terms and Conditions for Tap to Pay on iPhone during this process.
You’ll automatically be guided through both of these actions when you click on the GET STARTED link from the email we’ve sent introducing Tap to Pay.
You can also add Tap to Pay on iPhone by going to the StyleSeat app, then Menu → Business Settings → Payments & No Show Protection, and clicking on the “Tap to Pay on iPhone” link.
Setup is easy and only takes a few minutes but we recommend that you enable Tap to Pay before your first appointment and not during checkout.
How do I check out an appointment using Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Once you have signed up for Tap to Pay using your Apple ID, you can use Tap to Pay on iPhone for most StyleSeat appointments. When it’s time to check out your client, just go to the Appointment Details screen and click the “Tap to Pay on iPhone” button to start the checkout process.
Will my client’s card information get stored when I use Tap to Pay on iPhone?
At present after checking out a client with Tap to Pay on iPhone, their card information will not get stored or updated to their account. We will provide this option in a future app release. Until then encourage your clients that StyleSeat is your preferred way to get paid and to update their account with card info.
I am trying to set up Tap to Pay on iPhone using the StyleSeat app but it’s not working. What should I do?
Once you’ve checked that your device and operating system are eligible, there are a few other things that can impact your eligibility.
- First, ensure that you've downloaded the latest version of the StyleSeat app from the Apple App Store.
- If that doesn’t work, check your internet connection (wifi or your phone’s data is fine).
- Check that you have the correct Location permissions set. Go to iOS → Settings → Privacy →Location Services → StyleSeat and check that Location is allowed ‘while using the app.’
- If you’re still not able to set it up, contact StyleSeat Customer Service.
I have already signed up Tap to Pay on iPhone but I’m having trouble checking out an appointment. What might be happening?
- Check your internet connection since you need to be connected to the internet to use Tap to Pay on iPhone (wifi or phone data both work).
- Check that you have the correct Location permissions set. Go to iOS → Settings → Privacy →Location Services → StyleSeat and check that Location is allowed ‘while using the app.’
- If you do not have a passcode set on your iPhone, you will need to set that up in order to checkout.
- Restart the StyleSeat app.
- If you’re still not able to run the checkout, contact StyleSeat Customer Service.
What if a contactless payment card is not being read?
The performance of contactless cards can vary based on card design and location of the antenna. As a result, some cards connect more easily than others. Try the following to ensure a successful card read:
- Ask client to hold their card directly on the device with the chip on the left side and the longer side of the card lined up with the edge of the tap area for several seconds.
- If the card doesn’t read, ask the client to slide the card to center the chip over the notch on the device.
- If the card doesn’t read, try waving the card slowly on the back of your phone.
I set up Tap to Pay on iPhone using an incorrect Apple ID. How do I change that?
You can update the Apple ID associated with your Tap to Pay on iPhone setup by first removing the old Apple ID. Go to the Tap to Pay on iPhone welcome email sent by Apple and click the link to sign into your Apple Business Register. From the list of Merchant IDs, remove and confirm to unlink the Apple ID associated with your account.
Once the old Apple ID is removed, click the GET STARTED link from StyleSeat marketing communications or go to StyleSeat app→Menu→Business Settings→Payments & No Show Protection and click “Tap to Pay on iPhone” to restart the Tap to Pay on iPhone set-up process. Use the new Apple ID you would like to be associated with your Tap to Pay on iPhone account.
I tried to set up for Tap to Pay on iPhone but there was an error or the screen didn’t load. How can I start using Tap to Pay on iPhone?
Sometimes the sign-up process can take a few minutes to load once you land on the StyleSeat loading screen. Once you land on the StyleSeat loading screen, don’t navigate away or open other apps. If you’ve waited for over three minutes and the Apple terms and conditions haven’t popped up, please contact StyleSeat’s Customer Service for assistance.
I keep getting an error when I try to check out appointments with Tap to Pay on iPhone. What should I do next?
If you keep seeing an error screen but aren’t sure what to do next, please create submit a support ticket for immediate assistance. We’re working feverishly to improve the error messages we show so that you understand what to do next as quickly as possible, so keep checking back for the improved experience.
I got an error when I tried to process a payment with Tap to Pay on iPhone, but the card went through with a different method. Why is that?
Tap to Pay on iPhone is still a relatively new technology, so card companies have stronger restrictions in place to avoid fraud. In these cases, declines are more frequent due to things like required PINs [Apple is working on a PIN entry screen for Tap to Pay on iPhone which should be available soon] or lower restrictions on charge amounts.
Will Tap to Pay on iPhone affect the battery life of my device?
No, it won’t have a noticeable effect on your device’s battery life.
